is it ok to have two openssl version installed

Hi,

I run my mail server on Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS 32bit system. And I notice that it comes with openssl installed by default. My question is if I want to install openssl-1.0.1e from the source, would it cause some conflicts with the built-in openssl Or should I remove the built-in openssl before compiling and installing openssl-1.0.1e.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

openssl-1.0.1e-3ubuntu1 was slated for Saucy Salamander already so the process of recompiling the package for your platform should kind of work. Introducing non-LTS packages isn't SOP so think hard if you really really would want to do this. If you do then install it somewhere out of regular ld.so path, say in /usr/local/lib or /opt/lib, and compile the package it depends on either static or use a LD_LIBRARY_PATH envvar to change precedence.
