Question how is it called - what is it ?

hi,

i have question that requires a question as an answer.

on the server i'm using somebody long time ago setup the system in which i can place my bin application and then all users that are using this server can participate in using it for their own purposes. now the system should be moved to another machine. so my question is is there any technical name for that setup that i can google for to se how to set this up again.

so once again :

on the cluster i have a folder export/shere/apps/bin where if a user places his application all users can use it regardless of the location where they are. they just type application name and the application starts.

so i'm looking for a word to google for the replicate this system

thank you

bax

I can't think of any name of this beside "network share"...
The directory you mentioned leads me to belive that nfs is used (/etc/exports just take care of this).

So as an outline you would install an NFS server (network file system), have all the other machines in the cluster mount the share and finally put the directory inside the enviormental varibale $PATH.
The last step makes sure that all the binaries can be called without absolute path.
