configuring second level domains with postfix and dovecot?

Hello,

I am trying to setup a pop3 and a smtp email server using postfix and dovecot. But I am having some problems and could use some help.

1. How does one make an alias for most servers one places into kmail, thunderbird, outlook express
it is like:
pop.webhost.com and
smtp.webhost.com.
Sometimes even mail.webhost.com

For me it only works if I set it to: webhost.com for smtp and pop3. Basically how do others add the additions before the sites name?

Also sites like: http://www.forums.myhost.com http://forums1.myhost.com ?

Is this done on my server, the register godaddy that i got my domain from? or the dns server in my case zoneedit?

Thanks,

Goodnight

It is done on the DNS server for your domain.

Yes, if your domain is controlled by zoneedit, then that is where the subdomains (mail.domain.com, pop.domain.com etc) need to be created.
