best way to backup mysql db

Hi All
i having mysql running on redhat and for security and backup i run a db dump daily in midnight but as the size of db is growing its taking time to take dump and manage it.
i am using
msqldump -u root -p --all-databases > /tmp/mysql.sql

for complete databases dump and then zip it to save space.

but now i want to make a script which will pick all the databases from the databases and create a different file per db so that i can manage and restore them as and wen required.
because when i use above dump and want to restore it it restores the all databases.
it there any way with which i can do this more efficiently and fast.
what according to you should be the best way to take the dump of databases.

Hi,

You may want to take a look at the following script:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/automysqlbackup/

By default it will do what you want, or you can get some ideas from it and write your own custom version.

Regards
Ian

Or take a look at Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL -- http://www.zmanda.com/backup-mysql.html.
