Question `fdisk -l` ---for the difference Etxended

Dear all:
I have a problem don't understand?

For example:

Input1: `fdisk -l`
/dev/sda4 487 1305 3686917+ f Win95 Ext'd (LBA)

Input2: `fdisk -l`
/dev/sda4 781 907 1020096 5 Extended

how about these two Extended (Extension Division) What's the difference between. why sometimes "Win95" Extended is installed by default, sometimes it's "83" Extened?
tks.

It would help if you posted the full list: "sudo /sbin/fdisk -l /dev/sda" and posted the results in a code block to preserve whitespace.

How were the two created? What is the actual problem?

tks,
when i installed the system, sometimes default extension for the district is "linux 83", sometimes is "Win95" both formats.

If I encountered System "Win95" format of the expansion area, and logic Partition more than four, I will be the it replaced 'linux 83'.
so i don't know whether there are other differences?

the same system version, twice installation.???

Code:
[root@Host1 root]# fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sda: 10.7 GB, 10737418240 bytes

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Listing One looks normal. The extended partition contains the Linux partitions.

Listing Two looks bad. Type "5" is a dos/early windows partioning type. That doesn't sound correct.

reference:
http://www.win.tue.nl/~aeb/partition...n_types-1.html
Quote:
05 DOS 3.3+ Extended Partition

Supports at most 8.4 GB disks: with type 05 DOS/Windows will not use the extended BIOS call, even if it is available. See type 0f below. Using type 05 for extended partitions beyond 8 GB may lead to data corruption with MSDOS.

An extended partition is a box containing a linked list of logical partitions. This chain (linked list) can have arbitrary length, but some FDISK versions refuse to make more logical partitions than there are drive letters available (e.g. MS-DOS LASTDRIVE=26 is good for at most 24 disk partitions; Novell DOS 7+ allows LASTDRIVE=32).
You may be able to simply change the type with fdisk. Does this system work?
