Unhappy Unable to login using gm with nis+ and Slackware 8

Does Pam ship with Slackware at all?
As I cannot seem to find it on the ftp server or in the distro..

Basically Iam having the problem below:
I have a server exporting NIS/NFS to my other 2 pc's, they are amongst others exporting /home to all my machines with the user creted on the server).
So I can boot up any box and login to my account on the server..

This works fine if I boot up to text mode and then login and type: startx,

But if i up gdm to log in (it works fine as root for both text and grdm) it refuses access, basically in /var/log/messages, it moaning about cannot authorise the user..

Which with why I asked about Pam, or it it anything else?

oh Iam using Slack 8.0 btw
