SuSEFirewall2 is actually just a frontend for configuring iptables, so you'd still be running iptables/netfilter. Personally I'm not a fan of big firewall scripts with a million different user-defined chains and prefer more efficient firewall rulesets. That being said, I haven't seen anything to suggest that SuSEFirewall2 is any more or less secure than other firewall tools. You might want to take a look at Firestarter which has a pretty user-friendly interface that most people new to security/firewalling seem more comfortable using. For more complex firewalling schemes you'll likely need to write your own as these tools are designed for more basic setups.

Snort is an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) rather than a firewall, so you can use it in combination with any firewall tool you like.

If you click on the "Thanks" button at the bottom of one of my posts, you should be able to make a donation to LQ along with other charitable foundations (I think EFF and American Cancer Society). Glad I could help you out.

That's odd. Should be at the bottom of my post, between the data/time and edit/quotebuttons. Going from right to left, there should be buttons for "Reviews", "HCL" and then "Thanks". No?

Strange, I'll ask Jeremy what's going on...

Alternatively, you can also help out LQ by becoming a "Contributing Member" which allows you to do things like turn off ads, use the google search, and send PMs. All goes to a good cause either way. Thanks for the feedback, I definitely appreciate it.

Could you also send a screenshot of your browser window open to this thread? Jeremy is trying to diagnose the problem, but unfortunately all of us can see the "Thanks" button which doesn't help.

In case you aren't familiar with taking a screenshot:
If your using KDE, there should be an application in in the menu called kSnapshot or some other screenshot tool usually under the Graphics or Accessories tab. You can send the snapshot to me at: capt_caveman ~at~ linuxquestions ~dot~ net
Thanks.
