ssh password set to NULL?

hi guys,

Sorry for the stupid question but i have just started using Linux. I am using a RedHat 7.2 (yeah outdated, please dont ask me to upgrade it..lol) and am connected to a LAN as a host. I started the sshd and was very happy with it till one day i tried to access my computer from the LAN. I ssh ed to my computer and found that i directly logged in as root (without even asking for the password). I do have a root password set and cant understand what happened when i tried to ssh to my computer. Do i have to set the password in ssh seperately....fi yes then how?

Thanks for the help in advance...

Quite possible if you have configured ssh for public-key authentication.
