View Poll Results: Ubuntu 21 did not come with a GUI, what light GUI Should I use?
Hi All,
I am at a loss, this is probably a no brainer for most of you but I don't work with Gnome much and never had this happen.
I installed Ubuntu 21 to a brand new server and it did not come with a GUI desktop. So I thought, "I'll install Gnome. Gnome should have lots of good features I can use."
So I used apt-get and I installed Gnome and it's awful. When I log in, all I can do is log out or open the help menu. I can't even press Cntl-Alt-T to open a terminal window! I can't do anything!
I get a empty screen with a few little useless area in the corners, but there is no menu, no apps, no browser and most importantly, NO TERMINAL window option! I am at a complete loss. I have no idea why gnome did this on install and how to fix it. I have tried changing the shortcut for terminal window to something other than Cntl-Alt-T and that doesn't work. why does this happen? I don't know how to kill gnome with a terminal window. I've even tried logging out and logging in as root and root won't let me login from the GUI window. I don't know why that is happening either.
All I want to do is get rid of gnome now and I have no idea how do stop it from holding me captive.
Thank you,
Bryan
