Why it is so???
I have passwd, shadow, securetty in /etc/ and also there are some files in /etc/pam.d/ also there is a link pam_unix_passwd.so in /lib/security, if it is related to this problem.

Can you log into other accounts on the server OK?
Is this just on the console (i.e. locally attached monitor)?
Have you tried connecting remotely (e.g. by ssh) and seeing if there is any difference?

What do the logs say (look for recently accessed files in /var/log - if your login is being rejected, one of the log files should give a clue why).

Cool Login Incorrect before password problem details

Actually I m making a diskless system and for which I copied files of /etc in initrd. Now when login prompt appears it doesn't accept any login. There may be missing some files. I hav already copied
/etc/passwd
/etc/shadow
/etc/securetty
/etc/pam.d/*
/lib/security/*

Any more file left ????
Does anybody know abt it...
