how to show ports in use

I'm trying to determine which ports are in use in a perl program. I tried nmap localhost, but I was wondering if there was an easier way to do it so the output is easily parsed. Any assistance would be appreciated.

How about netstat? For example, "netstat -ln -A inet" shows all listening ports.

just a note - I'm not looking for ther perl command. i just want a command line instruction for linux to show numerically which ports are in use without a lot of extra information.
