Question can not telnet


I can not telnet my linux suse 7.1 from outside, but ican from inside. Please help me

you might have personal firewall activated...

this can cause that you cannot telnet from outside.

can not telnet

where can i turn the personal firewall off. i try to uninstall the firewall but it still can not telnet.

eayest way to shut personal firewall of, is somewhere in the yast configuration tool.

but i dont know anything of yast, so you have to look for yourself.

another way is, to remove the reference to the firewall script in the /etc/init.d directory.

it should be called something like firewall or firewall.sh and so on...

remove this file (deleto or move to another location) and then remove the symlinks in the /etc/rc.[something] directories.

i dont know how this works with suse, it meght be called rc.d or rc[runlevel from 0 to 6].d

give it a try.

dont use telnet, use ssh, it's more secure. you probably need to enable telnet, or ssh from /etc/inetd.conf see if telnet has a # before it, if so, remove the # before the and kill -HUP inetd you might have to ps aux|grep inetd to find the pid for it, and use the pid, instead of kill -HUP inetd
