Hi All,
This is my first post in this site, sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for may question....

We are trying to define an appliance based on Suse for an application server and Web server Apache, so we would like to know configuration best practices for network and security, is there any paper/doc about best practices ?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to LQ and please don't let zordrak's lack of manners turn you off to this site. It is actually a very useful place.

Have a look in the security forum. There is a sticky at the top that will give you a lot of starting points. Also, if you have some more specifics about what you're worried about or are trying to accomplish, it would help. Security can be a huge topic covering a ton of ground and your question is pretty broad.

you might get something for post number 4 in here; you could also try looking here. And

One problem is that you won't find a one-stop-shop for everything that can exist about security, because as the threat landscape changes, the security responses change, too. So, you have to regard it as a process of staying up to date, rather than a one time, fit and forget. So, just be aware that if I have given you a link to something old, while the threats described might still exist and be valid ones that you should protect against, there will be newer ones to worry about, too...
