Question Access denied What Happened

after installing or re-installing fedora core 386 and getting the system back up all was working fine... Apache , Vsftp no problems.. i began to up2date some software before I re set my mail server back up and now I can no longer log into the vsftp... I have tried everything I know with the user and group configurations with no avail.. it seems like it is not even looking at it... At first I suspected password shadowing but at this point of the game short of reformatting and reinstalling I really dont have a clue.... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am not real sharp on linux but I am trying my best to phase out my win "doze"

Hi.

Is vsftpd running? Try doing 'ps -Af | grep vsftpd' as root and see what is returns.
