I've just installed it in 20 min. in an old desktop machine with 2 GB in RAM, 80 GB in HD and an AMD processor at 1.7 Mhz and it works smooth, really nice.
Totally recomendable.
I am very happy with Linux Mint 17.1. I upgraded from 17 without any issues. The only two issues that I have in 17.1 are: 1) Some of the plugins/desklets do not work e.g. the desktop cube. Tere are others but the popup that comes up does not advise which ones. I have not had time to work through all those that I have installed. 2) If you login as root all the desktop icons are invisible which is annoying. I do not see the point of that.
I am not disappointed that I moved from Ubuntu and the awful Unity desktop to Mint and Cinnamon. I definitely recommend Linux Mint 17.1.
