Let's put it that way: to get a new kernel to
take effect the machine needs to be rebooted. But
then the reboot would have fixed the issue, anyway.
And there ARE times where a process is stuck because
of e.g. blocking I/O; if you can't fix the underlying
issue to that w/o a reboot you'll just have to live
with the zombie.
