why gparted does not recognize "ext4" (ataraid)? partition, but fdisk does
I have data on this 1T hard drive from years ago. I forgot how I had it configured. It may even be the same hard drive which popped and went blank during an extreme cold spell up in South Dakota upon booting in subzero cold. I then moved to Texas, and now would like to see if I can salvage the data on the drive.
I have used fdisk, and that shows a partition of about half the size of drive of ext4 and/or "ataraid" type.
I have used gparted, and gparted does not see anything but the entire hard drive, no partitions only used space. I really do not want to lose the data.
I have installed and am trying to learn Kali Linux Live, and the drive is visible, but shows only the empty space, which is the 500gig plus part of the drive, the rest being used by unrecognized. Also, one of the files says "recover_do_not_touch" and I thinking maybe I had encrypted this drive? how to discern if it is encrypted? If it is, I have certainly forgotten the password and at least can give up and wipe it, right? Thanks for any help.
