Still Trying to Get MP3 to Work

I've downloaded the rpm and installed it for XMMS. Tried to load XMMS-MP3 as well. The player loads. Shows that it's playing. The server shows it's streaming.

But no sound. Nothing.

Checked the mixer. It appears normal.

OK, what am I missing now?

well to answer with the info supplied, all i can suggest is to go to xmms preferences and try another output plugin (or whatever its called), i personally use esound...
secondly, which i should have mentioned first, is the sound card installed properly? do you get output from any other multimedia apps?

Another thought: I'm sure you've already done this, but just in case, have you verified that: the speaker cables are connected, the volume is up, you don't have Mute on, etc. Sometimes the obvious things are the easiest to overlook. -- J.W.

I think that this is due to the problem with the plugins.

Choose one of these plugins depending on your desktop.

esound (esd) - GNOME
arts - KDE
oss - WM, Enlightment, etc.

This is a broader audio problem, I fear.

-Sound Card is onboard '97 codec - verified, functioning and test file is perfectly audible.

-System sound enabled and functioning (beeps, blips & swooshes come through the speaker system!)

- CD player, like XMMS, shows that the media is playing but there is absolutely NO AUDIO.

I will try the desktop plugins. XMMS seems to have one plugin for MP3.
