Want to try out Linux on my old Acer C110

No experience with linux. Always had windows. I respect the concept behind open GL. I want to support it.

I have an old Acer C110 that I would like to switch to linux. It has original table xp.

No idea how to start this project?

By the way, it's also my first time to join a forum.

Welcome to LQ

Take a look at
http://distrowatch.com/
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/
For a beginner, I would recommend ubuntu
http://www.ubuntu.com/
However, it depends on the specs from your laptop.
Just download the iso from the distribution you want to install, burn the iso to a CD, boot from the CD
Most distro's have a live CD, you can run it from CD, to see if all the hardware is supported.

Kind regards

Thanks. I visited the links. I am not sure which Ubuntu should I install - desktop or Netbook. My Acer C110 specs are - Intel(R)Pentium(R) M; 900MHz, 760 MB Ram. MS Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 version 2002 Service Pack 2

My power adapter for the firewire CDROM is lost. So I can't do the live CD right?
Right now I am backing up the computer to an external HDD (19hr remaining).

So what do you recommend my easiest way is, for converting the laptop to linux?

Best Regards.
