Question VMWare????

Hello everyone...

I'm truely newbie, I have no idea about Linux. and now My company order this Dual Optoron 64 bits processors with 3 Gb RAM and SuSE Enterprise Server 8. And they ask me to install VMWare GSX Server 2.5.1. I've install it and run vmware-config.pl and now it ask me for the "C Header files location" I've input in "/usr/src/linux-2.4.19.SuSE/include/" and the VMWare said "The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same address space size as your running kernel" I've look up VMware.com and SuSE.com but no answer.

Please help

First at the console type
cat /proc/version

This should give you information about the kernel version and what compiler that you used to make it. Compare that to the kernel source code that you have. Also you may want to make an symbolic link. Login as su or root. Then type
ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.4.19.SuSE/ /usr/src/linux

This should make VMWARE find your right kernel version. You don't need include in the directory. Just the directory that points to your kernel source code.

You will need a compiler installed.

BTW, you may want to re-compile the kernel so LINUX can take advantage of the 64 bit processing and dual processors.

Hi Electro:
When I type cat /proc/version I get
Linux version 2.4.19-SMP (gcc version 3.2.2 (SuSE Linux)) #1 SMP Mon Jul 7 15:28:44 PDT 2003

Does this mean it's already compile as 64 bits? when we bought this server, it come with OS. It's from Penguin Computer. I belive they configure it for us already. Sorry for this stupid question, what is the "compiler installed" and where can I get one for my linux? Don't have any experience with Linux at all...

THank you
