Question Vmlinux.o instead of vmlinuz

Hi all,

I configured and compiled a vanillia 2.6.24 linux kernel using
Code:
make && make modules_install
I am used to get vmlinuz file that I copy in the /boot folder.

However, this time I add a vmlinux and a vmlinux.o file.

How to use them ?
Whatis the link with a vmlinuz file ?

Thanks

In a console, cd to the folder which contains vmlinux and run this command: file vmlinux. If you see output which contains something like this
Quote:
Linux/x86 Kernel, Setup Version 0x206, bzImage
then that is your new kernel. Just rename it to vmlinuz and move or copy it to /boot.

Exclamation

Ok, here is what I have:
Code:
pax:/usr/src/linux# ls -alh
...
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 9.7M 2008-07-29 17:44 vmlinux
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  680 2008-07-29 17:44 .vmlinux.cmd
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 4.8M 2008-07-29 17:44 vmlinux.o
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  655 2008-07-29 17:44 .vmlinux.o.cmd
pax:/usr/src/linux# file vmlinux
vmlinux: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, not stripped
pax:/usr/src/linux# file vmlinux.o
vmlinux.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped
It is not a kernel :/
However, I used
make menuconfig
make && make modules_install.

I will do it again

In /usr/src/linux (where i decompressed my kernel archive), i laucnhed:
Code:
make && mae modules_install
And i got again, 2 files:
Code:
pax:/usr/src/linux# file vmlinux
vmlinux: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, not stripped
pax:/usr/src/linux# file vmlinux.o
vmlinux.o: ELF 32-bit LSB relocatable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), not stripped
Any ideas why I am not getting a vmlinuz file ?
Thanks
