Right, obviously we can't use apt-get as it won't run properly while that perl dependency is not satisfied.

So, let's get the relevant perl package from the Ubuntu repositories on the web and install it "manually".

Click on the following link:

http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po...ntu0.3_all.deb

This should download the relevant file to your Downloads folder (or wherever you get your browser to download files to).

I haven't asked you to install it yet.

Is it in your Downloads folder?

OK, the following is the command to install it (my apologies if this is what you tried when you said that it wouldn't install):

Code:
sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/perl-modules-5.22_5.22.1-9ubuntu0.3_all.deb

We are following that rabbit down into the rabbit hole.

Ok, one of your outputs previously indicated that you had three packages that weren't fully installed or removed. Let's find out what they are (perl-base looks like it could be one of them).

Code:
dpkg -l | grep -v "^ii"
Please only paste everything beneath the equals signs.

Oh dear, what a mess.

Ok, please download the following files as before (but don't install them yet until I can work out the dependencies):

I don't know what the chromium browser is about I don't have it on my computer. I did try to print something on my new HP printer weeks ago and it didn't print because it's Windows dependent printer. I thought having the program WINE might make it work but it didn't so I use windows 7 in my partitioned HDD

Right, let's install perl-base first:

Code:
sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/perl-base_5.22.1-9ubuntu0.3_amd64

You need to open a separate thread about that once we're through with this.

Drat. Slip of my fingers (forgot to put the ".deb" on the end).

Code:
sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/perl-base_5.22.1-9ubuntu0.3_amd64.deb
It's almost 3am here now if that's an excuse.
