Ubuntu (!) desktop shows only mounted disk icon

I may get chastised for posting Ubuntu stuff here, but I got a reason.
Too bad I cannot post a screenshot , it does not work...

Anyway
aver since I started using Ubuntu I was frustrated with all the mounted devices icons on left side of the desktop. Too cluttered for my taste.
Today I used "Disks" and mounted FIRST /dev partition - happen to be "EFI System Partition".
After reboot I got SINGLE disk looking icon where I used to have ALL the folders icons.
I can still access all the stuff on the disk...

Now I did same for another HDD - mounted "EFI System Partition" ( not a first partition on this disk) and it does not behave same as the first disk.
I get the icon, but no access to disk at all.

What gives ?

I realize this is NOT Linux topic - it is specific to Ubuntu , so I won't get uptight if only Ubuntu gurus reply, presuming they have a clue what I am writing about.

Cheers

Your question is not Ubuntu-specific. Disks is part of GNOME that Ubuntu happens to use, among other distributions.

I don't use GNOME Disks so I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. I guess it's the GNOME Disks auto-mount on startup feature. Am I right?

Judging from the how-to I linked above, GNOME Disks writes to /etc/fstab. Please provide the output of cat /etc/fstab.

?!?

Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system - Ubuntu questions are absolutely on-topic - but if you want a Ubuntu-focused audience, you can post in LQ's Ubuntu section: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63
