I have taken the leap into the world of Linux but am finding that the latest download of Redhat Linux requires far more resources to run than my slow old PC can give (P100 processor, 128mb memory and 2Gb HDD )
I guess it must be possible to install older Linux components that aren't so resource intensive. But what? I understand that the latest Kernel should be used, so guess I may as well stick with Red Hat.
But how do I reconfigure RedHat Linux to use a less resource-hungry GUI? And are there other bits that I should reconfigure/disable/substitute to speed things up.
Or do I need to start the install again from scratch?
you can install such things as Englightenment, fluxbox, blackbox, icewm, etc that dont use as much resources as KDE/Gnome
but with a p100 i wouldnt run X in the first place
install the Enlightenment packages, and run that as your wm.. give that a shot
I definitely wouldn't be running Red Hat on a P100.. Try Vector.. or Feather... Vector (USE NON-SOHO) is retty decentand small.. and it comes with IceWM, Fluxbox, and something else by default.. it's not hard to install.. and it will probably give you the best performance out of your small machine...
