Trying to install bmp mp3 player, getting glib error

Whenever I try to run configure for bmp media player it comes up with an error saying:

'glib-2.0 >= 2.4.0' but version of GLib is 2.2.3
configure: error: Cannot find glib2/gtk2/pango

Now, I've installed the latest glib, it seemed to go smoothly (I'm completely new to linux) but this error keeps cropping up.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers.
