Trouble installing Cisco Packet Tracer. Not launching

I'm taking a Cisco Network Assoc. class at college. I need to install Cisco Packet Tracer. I use a mac. I've used Ubuntu before, so I installed a 60gb partition. 64bit, 12.04. Everything is up to date, no problems. So, let's see if I can do this from memory:

DL'ed PT from the Cisco Network Academy. 5.3.3, moved file to desktop.

cd ~/Desktop
chmod +x Packettracer.bin
./Packettracer.bin

installed just fine.
Attempt to launch. When the app is opened, nothing happens. Does not even show up on the...dock? It's the dock right? lol.
I tried using terminal
"PacketTracer" and terminal said it was launching, but nothing happened.
Tried just launching the app, same thing.

So, I thought I'd install 5.3.2
When I tried to do so, I was told by terminal that PT already exists. To uninstall, i need to:
sudo dpkg -r PacketTracer
"Warning: There's no installed package matching PacketTracer"

I'm at a loss guys and gals. I need this installed by Tuesday so my professor doesn't have to help me =)

I'll provide anymore details needed.

Going by your output it looks like a wrapper around a native package so it should have installed the dependencies, and the data sheet says it's supported on Ubuntu and Fedora. If you have strace installed you could try tracing it, the output will be huge but you may find the problem close to the bottom ( ~200 lines ).

Code:
strace -f -o /tmp/cpt_trace PacketTracer
