Synaesthesia set up?

i dug up Synaesthesia from the Suse ftp site because it sounded like it would be totally sweet (and i was a bit install-happy b/c i finnally figured out how to use yast to install from a website)

so i found it and tried to make it start, but i just got a small list of commands

the one that seemed like it would make the visualizer work,
Quote:
<another program> |synaesthesia pipe <frequency>
- send output of program to sound card as well as displaying it.
(must be 16-bit stereo sound)
example: mpg123 -s file.mp3 |synaesthesia pipe 441
...
i cant seem to get it to work for me
i've tried juk amarok and xmms with it
but i just cant figure it out

Code:
mpg123 /tmp/file.mp3 | synaesthesia pipe 44100
doesn't launch synaesthesia but it plays the file.
