P.S.
AFAIK new copyright law in Germany doesn't prohibit copying of commercial software, but using of illegal copies.

And I don't use any of the commercial programs included on the cds. I don't even know which programs these are!

I thought the question was not about copying but about distribution. But anyway, this was not the first discussion about this topic and won't be the last...

BTW: Your idea of removing the commercial software before distribution sounds reasonable.

Copying and non-commercial distribution.

AFAIK it's allowed to copy the suse 9.0 pro CDs 1 to 1 but not selling the copies,
even with yast being proprietary.
I don't know if some licenses changed.

But I know that you can't (photo)copy handbooks and use the support key you didn't buy.

To give a vague end to my arguments: it depends on the content of the COPYRIGHT file in the boxed version of SuSE. If it is mentioned there that the further distribution of the software is not permitted, it's distribution is illegal.

I don't know anything about the content of this file, so I guess this discussion is theoretical.

I think they didn't change it since 9.1
and in 9.1 it's not mentioned

suse doesn't own any rights on this software, so it can't redistribute software included on distro with another license.
