Suggested Graphics card for my PC?

Morning everyone!
I have an HP Pavillion a810n with 3300+ AMD Athlon 64 processor, Integrated SIS-Mirage2 (SIS 760) graphics w/ 128mb shared video memory, 1GB RAM, 160GB Hard Drive.
OK-problem is the Graphics card-can't even play Glest!(though it did when I was running XP on same computer.
I am now running Ultimate Edition 1.9 (8.04 Ubuntu) on partition 1 and Ultimate 2.0 Gamer's Edition on partition 2. Both run fine save for the graphics card.
Question is---What Nvidia card will work with my hardware without breaking my wallet???
Should I use Nvidia or ATi???
Thanks for the help!!
B

MY opinion: nVidia. I've found better driver user interface for nvidia. ATI's non-existence interface doesn't help if you get stuck.
Any Geforce 7 or 8 series card should be good. Go for a GT or GTX version. GS is entry level. I think you should get high-end 7 series in 40-50 pounds.
Check if your motherboard has PCIe support or not. Most cards need 16x PCIe. There are some models in AGP as well if you only have those. PCIe is better because it uses less power.

What is your power supply's maximum wattage?
Use this link to calculate the required power for the card final system specs.
