A permissions error, it seems.

Under what user and group is the webserver that is hosting this "SquirrelMail" running?
What are the permissions of the 'data' folder?
The webserver user needs write access for that folder.

In which case I have no idea.
Does that file already exist? If it does, delete it. That's all I can think of...

As long as the webserver user can write to it.
What user is the websever running under?
Who's the owner of the .pref file?

I'd say deleting the .pref file might work though.
