I have SuSE 8.1 Personal Edition, and a Creative Sound Blaster Live! sound card. I can play sound files such as wav, ogg vorbis, MP3 (not midi though), but I cannot record. SuSE 8.1 Personal comes with Sound Recorder (a gnome application that also works on KDE3). The application opens, and creates a file (when I'm using my microphone), but the file contains no sound. I checked out Kmix, and set the level on the microphone. I looked at gamix, and did not understand what the hell it was about.

Anyway, I'm hoping this is something simple that I have overlooked, and I'm hoping you will be able to tell me what that simple thing is.
