when I go to sound card detection in redhat9 it says it cant load driver but then after the error message window I hear the test sound play. I ran alsaconf and it says driver is already started. But It only plays .wav files no cd music sound and i have checked the cd(thin grey one) cable and it is fine. Also no sound when I play games that come with the distibution. I have checked gnome volume controll everything is turned up. Als when redhat boots up it tells me cant log into 1x-e blah, blah blah(some computer address) any ideas on how to fix my problem? any help is appreciated I'm a newbie!!!!!
The module my sound card uses is snd-cs46xx. I have the hercules game theaterXP. It wasn't working at all untill I went to alsa-project.org and installed alsa. now it works but there has to be a conflict since when i go to sound detection I get an error window but then here the test sound play after I hit cancle on error window.
Some sound works others dont. For example when I shut down I here the shutdown sound but when I boot up and log in no intro sound! When I click on things I here some sound but when I play the games that come with redhat 9 distro I don't have any sound. Also no sound when I try to play a music cd. not mp3 just a regular cd. I wen to xmms.org and downloaded the latest xmms rpm and installed it but no difference. I still only have partial sound. Any suggetions?

I had a similar prob with Fedora. Had to install Alsa, but my sound didnt work anyway, very frustrating indeed. So I just changed to Mandrake 10.0 and everytworks great now, but it did take some work to get all my apps to allow me to even use the sound device. Make sure that your mixers and stuff are rw. Also adding myself to the SYS group allowed my user acct to play music through xmms, before adding myself to SYS i had to run xmms as SU for anything to play...good luck!

If adding yourself to the SYS group doesn't help, hopefully someone else can solve the problem. I'm a newb too, but as someone else helped me with my prob, I try to help with the info whenever someone else has a similar problem (doesn't mean it'll work for sure). Best of luck to you.
