Sometimes when I click on a tab in Firefox it opens a new Firefox browser
Sometimes when I click on a tab in Firefox it opens a new Firefox browser. I would say it only happens about 10% of the time. I don't have any clues as to why it happens. Any ideas? Thanks.
Single click? I have seen this behaviour before but not recently. A bit frustrating when one of your carefully organised tab is jettisoned to another browser instance!
If you click while holding down the shift key it will open in a new browser instance.
Also, check your settings: Edit > Preferences > General > Open new windows in a new tab instead.
There is a "target" attribute that can be used in HTML links to cause them to open in a new window, but I think the above open in new tab option should override that (although not 100% certain).

Ha ha. Thanks timl. Yeah, it's a single click. (And "jettisoned" is the perfect word for what happens.)

Thanks astro. Yeah, have the 'open new windows in new tab instead' checked.

I figured you did, but never hurts to double-check.
New instances can also be opened by javascript, which your tab settings will not stop as far as I know.
You might check to see if it is consistent on particular sites/pages that you visit and investigate whether is is opened by a script. In that case it is not the browser but the site that is responsible.

Thanks astro. That's the thing--it seems totally random. I've been looking for any kind of a pattern.
It's really not that big of a deal. Just annoying more than anything. Thanks.
I think what happened is some burglar broke into my localstore.rdf and stole it (the whole store!).
Pretty sure it wasn't you, though. (But if it was fess up!)
Ok, ok, ya got me, I did it! I mean, I didn't want your life to be boring or anything. I had to find some way to make you keep coming back here!
EDIT: Ok, I found my copy of localstore.rdf using the information here under "How do I find my profile." To make it easier, you probably should use the browser (Firefox) to find the folder rather than trying to look for it yourself.
Regards...

Hello ardvark (non-burglar). Yeah, I went in via the browser and still no localstore.rdf.
