Hi,

I am using a smartlink driver for the modem. The NO CARRIER error disappeared when I added keyword 'local' into the corresponding config file. However, I am using debian sarge and pppconfig for modem setup. The configuration files are in '/etc/ppp/peers'. Unfortunately I don't know about wvdial and alsa drivers.

Perhaps it helps.
