Russian language in non-KDE WMs

I had my Mandrake 10.0 system working perfectly under KDE with Russian and English languages. But now I'm interested in trying something new... I've installed a number of new window managers, such as FluxBox and Enlightenment, but they dont' show the proper encoding in the Mandrake menu (that is, the programs that are normally part of the start menu under KDE). Basically, any menus or options that are written in English are fine, but anything written in Russian comes up garbage.

I'm stumped because my system was installed with Russian as the main language (did all of the custom stuff, too) and it works perfectly with KDE. I've got a feeling that I've got to change some configuration file so it displays with KOI8R or something... but I'm a newbie and don't know what to do! My internet searches have come up with nothing... but maybe because I'm not exactly sure where my problem lies.

Any help is appreciated!

BT
