i m new to the Linux, i tried to install sambaclient but it says dependencies are missing, i dont know from where to download all these dependencies libs. can any one tell me how can i directly install the RPMs through terminal by commands.
First of all, it's best to use the package manager that comes with your distribution and which will resolve any dependencies automatically instead of installing from RPM files. That should only be necessary if you have some specific needs, like latest version that's not available in any repository for example. It also is a good idea to mention what distro you are using so that we can give you a more adequate answer.
Looking forward to your participation in the forums. Have fun with Linux.
in order to install software on RHEL6 you HAVE to have a red hat support contract
for the desktop https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/desktop/
and if you have to ask then you WILL NEED the "Standard Subscription (1 year)" for $299 / per year
or
install one of the FREE rebuilds
CentOS 6.3
or
ScientificLinux 6.3
--- red hat ---
once you have activated your red hat account
( there is a very handy desktop link to do this )
you then can update your install and install samba
Code:
su -
--- your root password when asked ---
yum update
---- a new kernel will most likely be installed so ----
reboot
then
Code:
su -
--- your root password when asked ---
yum install samba-client
