RPM doesn't install anything

Hey all

I'm pretty new to the RPM package system, and today i was trying to install some programs. Sadly, i can't do it with RPM, it keeps giving me the same error... Here's an example

Quote:
Somedudeprompt$ rpm -i foobar-1.0-1.i386.rpm
error: open of foobar-1.0-1.i386.rpmm failed: No such file or directory
I assume it's because i'm not connecting myself to the fedora repositories or something? But a hand from you guys would be great

edit: Must not be it, i can install easily with Yum.

Thanks in advance

while using rpm you need to specify the directory where the package is kept

Code:
rpm -ivh /path/to/dir/package_name
it is better to use yum

Code:
#yum install package_name

So yum can download AND install the packages but rpm can only install(unless i write wget followed by the internet address of the package i want)? I was trying to install with rpm without having the file(s) in my computer, because i assumed i could download with it...

Where's a good site/repository do download .rpm files?

You need to tell the full path in case of rpm install.

rpm -ivh http://url or ftp://url

A good source for search rpm is http://rpm.pbone.net/. Incase of rpm install you need to install dependencies, yum will automatically do it for you.
