ok, so after using Apache for a few years on my Micro$oft boxes, a friend finally talked me into trying Linux. (of the Redhat flavor.) So now I've downloaded all 3 ISO's, did the checksums, and burned. As I'm installing I see "software RAID" and am thinking "a must try!" so after 6 failed attempts I think I've got it right but would like a second opinion.
First let me say I know RAID 0 has no redundancy, not a big deal to me. These are the RAID partitions I setup:
Quote:
(using different sized hard drives untill my new ones get in)
Disk Drives:

Maxtor 30GB 7200 rpm IDE 1
Western Digital 40GB 7200 rpm IDE 2
RAID Patitions:
Maxtor:
1. hda1 102 MB
2. hda2 5122 MB
3. hda3 1028 MB
4. hda4 Extended
5. hda5 11209 MB
6. hda6 11209 MB
Western Digital:
1. hdb1 VFAT 6144 MB
2. hdb2 102 MB
3. hdb3 5122 MB
4. hdb4 Extended
5. hdb5 1028 MB
6. hdb6 11209 MB
7. hdb7 11209 MB

After creating those RAID Partions (the VFAT is for win ME so I can still play my video games lol) I created the RAID Devices.
Quote:
RAID Devices:
1. MD0 102 MB /BOOT RAID 1
2. MD1 10244 MB / RAID 0
3. MD2 2056 MB SWAP RAID 0
4. MD3 22418 MB /VAR RAID 0
5. MD4 22418 MB /HOME RAID 0

Is this correct? Not to sure what the performance of the EXT3 filesystem is without RAID so I can't tell if I'm actually getting any boost in performance. Not sure if there are any benchmarking utilities for Linux either so I don't know how to test to see if I am running in RAID either. If you see something I've done bonkers plz let me know. Overall I have to say that Redhat is much better then my friend lead me to believe, the toys and the ability to adjust the system however
I want is amazing. Makes me wonder what the heck took me so long to take the leap.
Thanks in advanced for any help,
and sorry for the long post
