Reading Data From Tape Drive

I use to copy data from tapes to HDD, there are many files on them and DD command repeats to copy all files but it also label a names starting from 1 etc.

What I need to know is that can we read files with there native names as stored on tape using DD command?

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Without knowing how the files were written to tape or what application was used we can not determine the format of the data that is on the tape. There could be an index on tape that contains the file names. I am guessing that you are using the dd command in a way that is just dumping the data to the hard drive in some kind of raw backup format.

Do you have any additional information as to how the files were written to tape?

hi " Kamran" is the English language your native language ?

if not, a technical site that is in your native language might help better than one using USA/GB English .

Data is written in SEGD format.

Yes it just dumps the data.

Is there any way that DD or other command works like the copy paste function?

Maybe that works, actually I want the native names due to huge number of file which require renaming after viewing the each file.

Any help???

I am unfamiliar with this particular tape format and all I could really find is the document below. Just guessing that the header contains the native names and that you would need to write a script to decode it and then rename the files. More information might be required as what you mean by native name.
