pup_420.sfs not found

Hi everyone,

I am using puppy linux to remove a sirefef rootkit from my computer as per instructions here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7KlPBv0yp8. I have very basic knowledge but enough to make my way around, so please be gentle with terminology.

I have burned the cd and tried booting my computer from it and I get the pup_420.sfs not found message. The cd is burned fine, I have read a few of the threads on here about the issue but can't find a solution. I can boot the linux on my husband's computer with the same cd without any problems.

I am running a 64bit windows 7 on an Acer aspire, I don't know if that is of importance. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this virus might just destroy my phd thesis.

Always have multiple backups of your PhD thesis (been there, done that, managed to inadvertently wipe a chapter or two I didn't mean to wipe). Don't have an good answer for the Puppy problem; might a more recent version work?

Your CDrom is on USB?
or as integrated CDROM?
Is it a CD-Rewrite or a standard CD disc?

Few Ideas:
- CDrom too slow (via USB?)
- CDRom can not read properly your CD
or your CD is not properly written?

Thanks for the replies... the cdrom is integrated and the cd is not written improperly since I can use it to boot up puppy on another computer. The cdrom is working since I ended up booting off an avira rescue cd to clear the rootkit. In any case, I will try again with a different cd since I do want to get linux working at some point.
