Question Plug-ins, Plug-ins, Plug-ins, those damn Plug-ins!! GRRRR!!

Hello everyone. I am a Linux Newbie. I use Mandrake 10.0 Official and am loving it so far. I am having the hardest time viewing online embedded video. I have followed many instructions on how to get this to work but none have worked. I downloaded the latest version of the "win32codecs" and placed it into my mplayer plug-ins folder. Then I went to my favorite embedded video site and all i keep getting are plug-in errors like mpeg, asf., wmv, mov, and so forth. I am using the latest Firefox browser and I want to know which player should I use as Firefox's default embedded video player and how do I set it up as Firefox's default media player? Also, I am not sure that I placed the "win32codecs" folder in the right place "/usr/bin/codecs/." If this isn't the right place to put the codecs, then where is? Also, am I supposed to be using the "win32codecs?" If not, then what codec pack? Also, should I be using Helix player instead of MPlayer as my Firefox's default media player? Please forgive me if this has been asked before. I have been trying to figure this out now for 4 days. I am not experienced with the shell or command line so if you help me, please forgive of my ignorance of the command line. Please guys, please. I'm trying to get one thing squared away at a time with my 1st distro and this is the current problem.

Thanx in advance guys/girls.
