Question NVIDIA kernel module version is different from NVIDIA driver

hello all!

First time here! also, very new to linux...

I would like to know if it is possible to change the NVIDIA kernel module version - 195.36.24 -to match NVIDIA driver component version- 173.14.22 -that runs with the Blender I need to run?

I ve got NVIDIA Gforce 8800 GTS and Umbutu version 10.04,
64bits.

thanks a lot in advance,
lali

Hi. It is possible, by downloading the 173 version from NVIDIA by hand, or doing it automaticly. Normally the 173 version is already supported by the Ubuntu package managers. The easiest way is to try if the package manager is able to alter the version within the automated part, this will get the job done by clicking the items and clicking install. Just open a package manager like Synaptic for example and click the {Search} button. Enter a text like {nvidia} and click {Ok}. Now a list with all nvidia components will appear, including the 173 drivers.

about NIDIA kernel X driver

Hi Laures73,
Thank you so much for your answer. and I am sorry for my delay in giving my feed-back, I have had been involved in non digital matters and could not do it before. I might be useful to me later in other occasions.
I had to install ubuntu 9.10 and NVIDIA 9800GT which are the correct versions to match the blender program that has been created for my work and it worked ok.
cheer,
Lali
