mysql server installation erroe or yum error


hi am trying to install mysql server on fedora8 using yum and i get this kind of a error



Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...hide&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: development. Please verify its path and try again

Like the message said, verify the path... just stick it in a browser on your machine. you might have DNS issues locally. Certainly nothing to do with mysql in the slightest, barely even Yum related.

I think,yum is dead for fedora 8.

Error in itself tells you. F8 is an old distribution and there are chances repositories have been taken down. Upgrading to newer F13 may solve your problems. And if you still want to keep with oldie, you can install it from source.
