I have multipaths in rhel from an HP 3par storage. I removed several devices from the 3par storage and unexported them. Then I provisioned a new storage and exported it to the rhel server. Problem is, I can still see the old devices when I do a multipath -ll. I removed them using kpartx -d but when I restarted/reloaded multipath, they are still there.
I already removed them in /etc/multipath/bindings and /etc/multipath/wwid

Question is, how do I remove the non existent path and make the new device I exported visible to the server.
Thanks!

Reason: incomplete post
That particular section talks about command line options where you can use the -f or -F options. And perhaps the -F option to remove all unused paths will benefit you.
You did not cite exactly how you performed the removal of devices, whether you used the multipath command, or some other means. It may also be relevant for other LQ members to know what version of RHEL server you are running.
I did the commands below and the mpaths were gone.
kpartx -d /dev/mapper/mpathb
kpartx -d /dev/mapper/mpathc
kpartx -d /dev/mapper/mpathd
multipath -f
multipath -f mpathb
multipath -f mpathc
multipath -f mpathd
multipath -ll
but after i ran service multipathd restart they were back. Do I have to reboot the machine to make this permanent? Also, I still cannot find the new device I presented to this machine. Thanks!
We did a remote session with RHEL. They checked and confirmed the symptoms that I was experiencing. They suggested that I check with our 3par vendor to check the connections from storage to server. 3par vendor confirms that the old luns were deleted and the new one is presented to the server. Still cannot see the new lun and the old luns are still visible.
