Hello everyone,

I wish to ditch windows media player, but it is the best I have used (but far from perfect). You know in the old days, you would put on a vinyl and browse the back of the cover, or maybe just put the cover down and glance over at it viewing the art on the front cover? If you understand then you will know that the ms player just doesn't cut it. What I want is a player that i can see the played album (or track) art as big as my screen, or a slide show of the artwork/tracklisting, whichever i choose. To me this seems like such a simple thing to want, I can do it in the real world by flicking through a cd cover, surely there must be a player that caters for simple folk like me. Good sound with the pictures that the cover designer intended without needing a magnifying glass.

windows media player? so you're using windows and you're looking for a audio player for windows?

do you want to display a slideshow of the pictures stored in the audio files (id3 or other)?
or do you want the program to connect to the internet and search for pictures of the track/album/artist you're listening to?

insearchofbetter, you should be aware that this is a linux forum. Unless you are using windows media player though WINE (yuck!) in a linux system this question really shouldnt be here.

I'll assume that you are a windwos only user who want windows software. Try foobar2000 with the album art plugin.

You can use a single image, cycle though images or open images in an external viewer.

foobar2000 is great. i use it on my windows 7 and it's the only audio player which i would give a 10/10 rating

Sorry for not making myself clear I am using windows at the moment but am thinking of dipping my toe into linux as there are many things i don't like with windows and would like to find an alternative. I already use openoffice and understand i can use that in linux with no need to learn different, so I just need to sort this problem as it is an important one for me. If I find a player that suits me, then i will be looking to use a version of linux.

Oh, and I would rather add my own album art rather than the program automatically searching and adding stuff, wmp once did this itself and ruined lots of my folders, it took ages to sort out!!!

Thanks, I will look into that as my migration to linux fully may take some time, but i think that is my destination once i get my head round it.

ok, but be aware that foobar2000 is a windows only program (although people say it runs runs fine through wine)

Foobar runs in wINE, I used it for a while with linux until I found a player I could get along with.

Foobar is great for windows, and will do what you are after.

With linux native players, there isnt anything that has all the features of foobar. If you are just after album art, there are various media player that will display album art. I'm not aware of any that you can just click the image and open the image in an image viewer..but that isnt something I've ever cared about, and its possible there is one or more.

Yeah, that is a little ugly. You can change a lot of the way deadbeef looks though. You can remove, change the order and size of columns (including the ablum art column).

You should be able to make a layout that suits you with some playing around.
