Question Mandrake Linux 10.1 Centrino Wi-Fi (intel 2200BG) Issues

Right, ANY help would be great!

I am am IT tech for a company in tenerife spain, I have configured my laptop to dual boot XP Corp and Mandrake 10.1, all devices are working properly except screen res (which im not bothered about) and my wireless connection. The hardware IS correctly detected from within Linux however it refuses to connect. The "connection manager" defaults to Eth1 which i think is correct.

Windows works fine with the long distance Wifi link which is set up here, however it shows no attempt at communicating under Linux.

Do I need to install some third party connection management software? Would a firmware update fix the problem (unsure of how to do this under Linux)

Do I really need to specify Fragmentaion / RTS / CTS Length / Freqencey etc... Or are these auto detected as in most versions of WinBlowz with the correct software.

Another note is that "connection manager" doesnt appere to pick up the MAC address of the mini PCI card. And on shut down there is some brief text mentioning that the system couldnt load the firmware ipw2200 (which is for the wifi i presume)

I have turned off all Encyption and have set the SSID to "PBE" there are currently no other security systems in place.

HELP!

Please try this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...icle&artid=337 (different distribution, so your package installation looks differnetly, but all configuration files are in the same place). Firmware can be downloaded from http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/firmware.php

Follow the tutorial. If you fail, please insert the command and errors.

It is autodetected.

So it looks the firmware is needed. The instructions on the firmaware site should be enogh. If not, write.
