Linux on an old Performa 6400

I recently purchased an old Macintosh Power PC Performa 6400/200. I was hopeing I could use it to learn Linux. Alas, I am in over my head a bit. I am beggining to wonder if it is possible. Wat Distributor should I use? Has anyone had any luck installing say, Yellow DOg Linux on a Performa? ANy help would be appreciated.

The Yellow Dog installation FAQ/Documentation should contain everything you need to install linux.

I managed to get Yellow Dog installed on a Performa 5200, but i did use an external scsi hd which took the hassle out of partitioning.

Some of the older mac need to boot into MacOS first, then you set up a control panel which then boots linux off another partition.

That's great. Now I will be downloading and buring the file from a Dell PC with Windows XP on it. Will it work, and what to I need to make it work?
