What error message are you seeing?
|
when I click on updates and then click the yes the updates seem to be loading fine, but the a error message that simply says unable to FETCH lists is returned, nothing else except for a box with OK to check. Anyway after fighting with this for several days I have replaced the operating systems on both machines because even though these are only backup PC'c for various family members to use, I do sometimes need to use these for accessing some critical law enforcement issues related to my employment and is the main purpose of these backup machines. I really did like the Linux Lite because of it's simplicity and also because everything worked perfectly with the old hardware right out of the box unlike previously installed O.S.'s.
Appreciate your comeback and would still like to know about any solutions to this, I can easily reinstall Lite |
It is strange that both systems, running different o/s versions, should suddenly start showing the same error at the same time.
Had you just upgraded them? Were you able to access the internet properly otherwise? Had you been experiencing any other sort of internet problems or slowdown? I'm not very knowledgeable about Linux Lite, but until someone else steps in and if you decide to re-install Linux Lite and pursue the problem, can you please paste the output from Code:

Linux Lite Updates
I posted in the Newbies Forum because I am relatively new to Linux Lite, I have used Linux Distributions for about three years. Main purpose of switching to Lite is because it supported all of the legacy hardware on these old systems right out of the box. Previous distributions used all had failures in this respect.
And yes the 2.8 version on one of the PC's was upgraded to 2.8 from the originally installed 2.6 version. Some clarity here is I also downloaded 2 new ISO images , a 64bit and a 32bit from Sourceforge net and installed on the newer of the 2 PC's, and this update problem still occurs with the new image installed. You ask what O.S I have reverted to. On the newer dual core Microsoft X has been installed, the 3.2 GHz Pent IV the Linux Mint has been installed, both of these O.S. are working well, with the exception of the Mint not being able to support the legacy floppy drive in the old Pentium everything else works perfectly. However both of these PC's had a much better benchmark when running Linux Lite versions, and now seem real sluggish in comparison. not to impressed with the performance of the current installations . Thanks again for your come Back. |
No problem. Just so I can understand this, did you ever get updates to work on either of the two Linux Lite systems?
|
Updates were working fine on both systems when first installed in 2015 until recently when they both stopped working ??????????? )o;
|
Can they access the internet? Is networking operational other than the updates?
I don't know how Linux Lite does updates, so I have no other suggestions. |
Did you have any PPAs added to the repositories? The Google Chrome one has been borked as of late if you had Chrome installed, which may have been the error message you saw.
|
Chrome has been working fine for me, running Debian. I've had no issues with updating it.

For the past week or two, I've been getting the following error from the Chrome repository in question: W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/de...stable/Release Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file) It had worked fine previously to this. A quick browse of the internet shows that I'm not the only one experiencing the problem. |
Chrome is no longer available for 32-bit systems. I don't know if that's your problem. I'm on Sid, and that could also be a factor. I haven't tried updating chrome on Jessie for awhile. I don't update Jessie that often, because there aren't many updates available.

Could be. Google has decided to stop supporting 32-bit systems entirely with Chrome. There should be no updates available.
