kernerl c header files on debian

greetings

I am trying to install Vmware but I can not find the kernerl header files and I need them to install it

here is the question it ask

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running

I have debian sarge

according to vmware it should be in //usr/src/linux/include

however they are not there in fact src is totaly blank no files in there

so what do I do.

Do I need to install them or do I need to change the dir

there is /usr/include but I am not sure that is correct

thank you for your time and help
