Installing via install.sh script files in Ubuntu

If this problem has already been discussed don't let me waste your time, just redirect me. I'm new to linux and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I've been trying to install the Intel FORTRAN Compiler for a research project and have had no success. I have the HOARY version of Ubuntu installed. When I try to execute the install.sh, extracted from the tar.gz, a window opens and quickly closes. I have a feeling that the commands which the script file require are not being made available by Ubuntu. Anyone have a clue what the hell is going on?

Does it come with a 'configure' script? Run that first, then run the command 'make install'. Be sure you're in the directory where you've decompressed the files into. I can't say for sure this isn't the answer, but if there's a configure script there, then you should have better luck with that, than by trying to run install.sh
